Abstract
The Communist assault on the Romanian Prefecture refers to the violent actions taken by the Communist Party in post-WWII Romania to seize control of local administrative institutions. Backed by the Soviet Union, they stormed prefectural offices, using intimidation, violence, and legal manipulation to replace officials with party loyalists. These actions were part of a broader strategy to dismantle democratic structures, consolidate Communist power, and establish a totalitarian regime by the early 1950s.
